Dark circles are described as "a shadow" in the lower orbicular region. If they first appear at the corner of the eye, it is because the circulation begins at the inner corner of the eye. These can come from the morphology of the face (thin person with a bony face) or be due to a racial or innate cause (brown skin with a natural concentration of melanin pigments).
FATIGUE, STRESS AND ILLNESS
Fatigue, stress and illness can cause changes in the tone of the lymphatic channels, which contract reflexively according to the sensitivity of each person. Drainage is poor, blood stagnates in the dilated vessels and the skin reveals its bluish shadows. In the extreme, blood pigments can reach the interstitial tissue and color the skin more permanently. In all cases, it is necessary to tone the vascular wall, drain and revitalize the eyelids.
BAGS AND PUFFING UNDER THE EYES
Similar to dark circles, bags often appear in a state of advanced fatigue. They are the result of sagging skin, insufficient lymphatic drainage and the insidious accumulation of water and lipids in the subcutaneous tissues. Before the fat cells settle permanently in the distended lower eyelids, it is necessary to drain, de-infiltrate but also hydrate and firm.
Eyelid swelling is due to a deficiency in the lymphatic microcirculation around the eye. The micro-pump system of the lymphatic channels is much more functional during the day thanks to the thousands of eyelid beats. It slows down at night because of the immobility of the eyelids. In addition, it is overwhelmed by the accumulation of waste (water + salt + poorly eliminated alcohol). The tissues will then stretch, leading to the famous morning swelling upon waking.
To avoid it, adopt a healthy lifestyle with sufficient sleep. They appear very quickly in an area where the skin is thin, often dry and stressed by countless movements, given that it is practically devoid of sebaceous glands.
DARK CIRCLES UNDER THE EYES
There are different types of dark circles. It is important to differentiate them to better combat them.
- Dark blue/vascular circles.
They are caused by a malfunction of blood and lymph circulation. As a result, a mass of blood pigments forms under the thinnest layers of the skin.
Skin aging weakens the microcirculation of the lower eyelid. The blood capillaries, which are composed of collagen, relax, causing a decrease in blood flow, which leads to the appearance of pigments on the eyelids.
- Dark brown to chestnut / pigmented circles
Their causes are numerous: genetic predispositions, computer screens, UV rays...
The epidermis and dermis of the lower eyelid are very thin (0.5 mm thick). Therefore, the skin is translucent, leaving excess pigments, particularly those related to melanin, visible to the naked eye.
- Hollow circles
They are the result of the disappearance of the fat that is between the skin and the bone around the eye. It is the orbital bone, visible through the skin, that gives the colored appearance to the lower eyelid.
